    "Money can't buy happiness"
Yeah, but it can sure help it along.

It can buy a jet ski, have you ever seen anyone unhappy on a jet ski?

In almost all aspects of life, steady progress beats bursts of energy. The worker who puts in the hours every day beats the worker who crams before the presentation. The athlete that obsessively hones their skills goes farther than the athlete that glides by on natural gifts.
The lesson isn't that slow and steady wins every race, fast and steady usually does. The lesson is that relentless pursuit of a goal is a lot more effective than procrastination mixed with brilliance, and I don't think anyone can deny that truth.

The only reason I'm not a musician is because I want to live a comfortable life.

That one should take life seriously. What a fucking joke.

    You'll never get out alive.

“Yes, but my father said that free advice often turns out to be expensive,” said Tiffany.
Miss Tick sniffed. “You could say this advice is priceless,” she said,
    “Are you listening?”
    “Yes,” said Tiffany.
“Good. Now... if you trust in yourself... ”
    “Yes?”
“... and believe in your dreams... ”
    “Yes?”
“... and follow your star... ” Miss Tick went on.
    “Yes?”
“... you’ll still be beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren’t so lazy. Goodbye.”
― Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men

Follow your heart. Girl rejects me and I keep pursuing her, and I get a 500 foot restraining order? Ridiculous.

    "Pluto is not a planet."
YOU'LL ALWAYS BE A PLANET TO ME, PLUTO.

    Everything happens for a reason.
I think we look for purpose in struggles and create reasons. The truth is, crap just happens sometimes and it's up to us how we react or move forward from it.

    Existentialism.

"Once you reach the point of financial security, money brings diminishing returns of happiness" is the more accurate version.

i work at a major auto manufacturer (one of the world's largest).
do not buy a first model year car. it's not just an old wives tale. manufacturing something as complicated as a car is a massive undertaking, and unfortunately sometimes takes a bit of trial and error, and some experience before the people on the shop floor have the "knack" for it.
brand new engine? (as in, brand new platform/architecture, not just a redesign of a previous engine) i'd say maybe even wait two years until they've been in the public's hands in larger numbers for some time.
    mid-cycle refresh / "facelift" - 6 months
minor changes that happen for a new model year? maybe avoid the first month's build.

    dont mention the "job" comment
    just ask her out
somewhere near your house (but have a plan to go somewhere)
she can meet you at your place, when she gets there have her come in for a second (something like, "i'm almost ready, just have to brush my teeth, grab my jacket on the other room" etc will work fine)
her girl's sex-dar will go off, but when you come back 30 seconds later, don't try anything, and actually leave, she'll think "oh cool, what a gentleman" or somesuch.
then go out, and grab a bite (or whatever)
afterwords, you can invite her back for a dessert, or some wine, or just to watch some video you were talking about, etc.
but, here's the best part, she'll feel less resistance towards coming back to your place, as its somewhere she's been before,
even though she was only there for 1 minute, just in the psycholigical sense, going back to a guys place has weight
but, if she's been there before, and that you didn't try to jump her bones, and that you guys have also gone out, makes it easier for her (even if she doesn't psychologically realize it).
once back home, no need to rush, get some wine out, watch a movie, and just take your time.
you'll be getting both a raise, and a job in one night.
and that my friends, is how you get laid on the first date.

always write what you think is funny. that's all you'll ever be able to offer anyone anyway. and if you're applying for or submitting to a publication or show, watch or read that thing a lot. and submit something to them that is in the style of their show. know a ton about it. the best way to get hired anywhere is to make the person above you think that having you around would immediately start making their lives easier.

had to explain to a friend that amish people know electricity exists, and that they just didn't believe we should use it ("i'm gonna go down there, to amishland or whatever, and show them my xbox!!") also had to tell her that we generate electricity, in power plants, it doesn't just float around in the air, roaming free, like motherfucking bison.

"i’m sorry but i don’t want to be an emperor – that’s not my business – i don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. i should like to help everyone if possible, jew, gentile, black man, white. we all want to help one another, human beings are like that. we all want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. we don’t want to hate and despise one another. in this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can provide for everyone.
the way of life can be free and beautiful.
but we have lost the way.
greed has poisoned men’s souls – has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed.
we have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in: machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. we think too much and feel too little: more than machinery we need humanity; more than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.
the aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. the very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood for the unity of us all. even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. to those who can hear me i say “do not despair”.
the misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress: the hate of men will pass and dictators die and the power they took from the people, will return to the people and so long as men die [now] liberty will never perish…
soldiers – don’t give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you – who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, diet you, treat you as cattle, as cannon fodder.
don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. you are not machines. you are not cattle. you are men. you have the love of humanity in your hearts. you don’t hate – only the unloved hate. only the unloved and the unnatural. soldiers – don’t fight for slavery, fight for liberty.
in the seventeenth chapter of saint luke it is written ” the kingdom of god is within man ” – not one man, nor a group of men – but in all men – in you, the people.
you the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. you the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. then in the name of democracy let’s use that power – let us all unite. let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future and old age and security. by the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie. they do not fulfil their promise, they never will. dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. now let us fight to fulfil that promise. let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness.
soldiers – in the name of democracy, let us all unite!”
